SURFACE PREPARATION

  • Remove any loose material, dirt, and mineral deposits with a chipping hammer or masonry chisel.
  • If a horizontal crack is less than 1/8” wide at surface enlarge that area so it is 1/2” wide and 1/8” deep.
  • All other cracks that are not horizontal should be enlarged to 3/4” inch deep and 1/2” wide.
  • Remove all dust and debris with a strong vacuum and dry area if necessary.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

HORIZONTAL SURFACES
  • Use Proflex™ Flexible Epoxy or Proflex® Crack Filler for Asphalt Paving for horizontal cracks. It can be poured and will fill to a greater depth than the Butt Putty® Crack Filler Gel or ProFill which can be used effectively on vertical cracks (see below).
  • Mix only a portion of the material needed so condition of crack can be gauged.
  • Mix 2 volumes of Proflex Part A with 1 volume of Part B and slowly pour mixture into crack.
  • Allow material a few minutes to penetrate then add more as needed.
  • If Proflex Flexible Epoxy™ or Proflex™ Crack Filler for Asphalt Paving appears to drain away each time more is added it indicates the presence of a cavity under the slab. A dam must now be created to contain the product within the crack.

Two methods may be used;

  • Lay a string or heavy twine loosely into crack and force down with a 1/2” wide strip of plastic cut from a bottle. Dry sand may also be used if desired instead of string or twine.
  • Add more twine or sand as needed until a firm bottom can be felt.
  • Mix additional Proflex Flexible Epoxy™ or  Proflex™ Crack Filler for Asphalt Paving and pour into crack until it is filled and even with surrounding surface.
  • Sand can be sprinkled on top of Proflex Flexible Epoxy™  or Proflex™ Crack Filler for Asphalt Paving to blend with surrounding area.
  • A thin topping for spalled concrete can be made by mixing one part Proflex Flexible Epoxy™ with four parts clean sand.
VERTICAL AND OTHER SURFACES
  • Butt Putty® Crack Filler Gel  or ProFill™ is designed for application by trowel.

  • Fill crack by pushing Butt Putty® Crack Filler Gel or ProFill™ into it from each side.

  • When near surface, place a piece of polyester fabric (cut to fit) into crack and topcoat with more Butt Putty® Crack Filler Gel  or ProFill™ until smooth with surrounding surface.
