CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF LIQUID ROOF®
EPDM RUBBER COATING
When properly applied,
Liquid Roof® can be expected to provide many years of reliable roof protection. EPDM Rubbers have proven themselves to be one of the most durable roofing materials made.
An application of Liquid Roof ®
produces a relatively thin membrane approximately 20 mils thick. This is sufficient to act as a weather shield but not enough to provide any structural strength. Roof maintenance should, therefore, not be limited to only the topmost layer but include the structure that supports it.
CLEANING THE SURFACE
Maintaining a clean white surface helps to reduce heat absorption. An annual detergent wash using a sponge or
soft brush will usually suffice. This will also provide an opportunity to inspect the roof for
any early signs of problems.
DEBRIS ACCUMULATION
When the RV is parked under or near trees for extended periods, an accumulation of leaves, needles, broken branches and sometimes tree sap or rosin may develop. This debris should be removed weekly and the surface inspected for damage. Park far enough away from low tree branches so they cannot touch the roof during a storm.
CLEANERS AND SOLVENTS
Detergents and most household cleaners that do not contain oils or waxes may be used. Paint thinner and alcohol may also be used for wiping the surface.
WHAT NOT TO DO
Do not use abrasives or brushes with stiff bristles because these can break the rubber membrane. Do not apply wax or any product containing oil. These will soften the rubber and cause it to swell.
WINTER STORAGE
Liquid Roof ® can tolerate temperatures to –60°F., so low temperatures should not present a problem. Do not park the RV under a tree, overhead wires or near a higher sloped roof if you are in a snow belt area. Icicles falling off branches or wires and snow and ice sliding off a higher roof can cause serious damage to the roof of an RV.
STRUCTURAL CONCERNS
Most RV’s are not constructed to carry heavy roof loads.
Work from a ladder whenever possible. Place plywood on roof
to distribute load between trusses whenever roof work is
performed. Limit the load to one person. If there are
noticeable sags in roof skin between trusses, have your dealer check for a possible problem.
